Vineyard & Vintage

THE VINEYARD: planted in 1998, this 4-acre patch is located on the cooler east facing slope of the Mt Camel range, at an elevation of 250m. Formed from 500-million-year-old Cambrian rocks, the ancient soil consists of “jasper”, green stone, granite and “BUCKSHOT” ironstone pebbles that have formed over many centuries, a true sign of how ancient these soils are.

Heathcote’s continental climate provides warm days and cool nights, promoting long and slow ripened fruit with excellent flavour, a nice balance of acid and tannin, and a lovely silky texture.

Viticulture focuses on soil health and minimal intervention.

VINTAGE 2021: A fabulous “Old school” vintage. Good winter and spring rains were followed by mild conditions. Summer was cool, dry and long.

Tasting Notes

WINEMAKING: Grapes were de-stemmed before undergoing a gentle cold soak for 3 days, and an 11 day ferment. A small 5% portion was whole bunch fermented. The resulting wine was transferred to a combination of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads to undergo malolactic fermentation and ageing prior to bottling.

DRINK WITH: Enjoy with beautifully roasted or slow cooked dishes. Enjoy now or will easily cellar for 15 years plus.

Reviews & Awards

AWARDS: Gold Medal – 95 Points – Australia & NZ Boutique Wine Show - Class 13
“Dense colour, concentrated, luscious…. great fruit intensity with pepper, dark fruits, chocolate, coffee. Finishes with savoury texture, dusty tannins, long finish….”
