Vineyard & Vintage

THE VINEYARD: planted in 1998, this 4-acre patch is located on the cooler east facing slope of the Mt Camel range, at an elevation of 250m. Formed from 500-million-year-old Cambrian rocks, the ancient soil consists of “jasper”, green stone, granite and “BUCKSHOT” ironstone pebbles that have formed over many centuries, a true sign of how ancient these soils are.

Heathcote’s continental climate provides warm days and cool nights, promoting long and slow ripened fruit with excellent flavour, a nice balance of acid and tannin, and a lovely silky texture.

Viticulture focuses on soil health and minimal intervention.

VINTAGE 2024: a completely topsy-turvy vintage, with the wettest January on record (half a years rainfall between Christmas day and the 8th January), the weather turned in January, 0mm of rain, with beautiful warm days and cool nights - perfect for flavour development and refreshing acidity.

Tasting Notes

WINEMAKING: Shiraz grapes were harvested by hand followed by single berry selection in order to express the purity of our Shiraz. A gentle cold soak was followed by fermentation in open pots before aging in 100% French oak.

DRINK WITH: suited to slow cooked fare, maybe beautifully slow cooked lamb shoulder. Enjoy with family and friends, now or over the next 15 years.

Reviews & Awards

Halliday Wine Companion Review -
"We know Heathcote shiraz has power, but it can also have elegance. Cue this impressive young shiraz from Rob and Meegan Peebles which combines both qualities. Brilliant dark purple hues. Florals, wild herbs and mint rise from the glass with dark fruits, blueberry, plum and dark spices – lifted, fragrant and so pretty. Savoury black olive notes are introduced on the palate together with a solid base of ripe fruit, spice, chocolate and earth. Well defined in tannin, but there is an enduring elegance that so delights."
